Premier’s Comment (Current Event – April 7th)

Recently our premier, Brad Wall, has had a video surface that was filmed 16 years ago. In this video Mr. Wall is making fun of former premier Roy Romanow and talking in a Ukranian accent. Mr. Wall was 26 years old at the time this video was filmed in 1991. Mr. Wall has publicly apologized both in and out of the provincial legislature. He has also indicated that he will be contacting Mr. Romanow to personally apologize. Some people are saying that this is not enough and that Mr. Wall needs to resign from his position as Premier of Saskatchewan. What are your thoughts? Should people in high ranking positions be held accountable for things they may have said or done even if it was many years ago before they entered their chosen profession? Should this apply to people not in high ranking positions?

  1. I do not think that Mr. Wall should have to resign from his position as the premier of Saskatchewan because he has apologized several times and I am sure that he doesn’t have the same thoughts now. The only reason why this video has surfaced now and not any earlier is because Brad Wall is now in a position of power where people think that you shouldn’t do anything wrong but everyone makes mistakes. I think that all people should be held responsible for their actions even if it was something they did a long time ago but they should still be given another chance. Even in 1991 there were different ideas about racial discrimination and homosexuality and some people still believe in these views.

  2. People should be held responsible for their actions. Like Sidni said, the only reason this video surfaced was because of his power position. This is politics we are talking about, and it will never end. Backstab the other guy to get power. He has apologized in public and has called the one dude to personally apologize. Personally, I really don’t care about politics.

  3. I think that Brad Wall should not have to resign from his position in government. If this video happened in 1991 it should not have any effect on his personality now he may have matured much more than he used to be. Nobody likes to be held accountable for what they may have done or have not done in the past so why should they hold brad wall accountable about his actions. He is just a person like everybody else.

  4. I agree with what these two said. After 16 years a video like that should not be critisized at all. He should not even have to appologize for this comment it was so long ago.

  5. I think that Brad Wall is not needing to resign his post because it was not good for him to say. It was not right though for the NDP to keep the video of him and practically blackmail him to force him to resign. This controvisiy should not affect his carrer at all.

  6. I think what he was was terrible. I do not believe that he should have to resign or be fired for what he did in his early years. This was to long ago to have even been brought up now. I think an apology is all that is needed.

  7. I think that it was pretty dumb for him to say that. I think that he should not be fired because it was several years ago. I dont know why they didnt bring that up back when it happened. He apologized and i think thats all that should happen.

  8. I think that Brad Wall made a bad decision when he was young. Then again, we have all made bad decisions. I dont think he should be fired from his current job just because of something that happened 16 years ago. It would not be fair to him and all of his hard work. It should not matter what he said back then, but what he is saying now. Now he wants to make Saskatchewan a better place. He apologized to everyone he insulted in the vidoe he knows what he did wrong, but that video is history. You cannot change the past no matter how hard you try. You can only change your future, and I think with Brad Wall hanging around it should be better.

  10. I don’t think that Mr. Wall should have to resign because this was 16 years ago. I say forget about the past and worry about the feature.
