Out of Gas

Recently, Brent Butt announced that this will be the last year of filming for Corner Gas. At this time it is unknown how this will affect the Town of Rouleau and its residents and business. What are your thoughts about this announcement? How will it impact Rouleau? Rouleau School? Your life in general? Will Rouleau always be known as Dog River?

  1. I think that people will continue to visit Rouleau. Some may see it as a good thing because there will be no more invonviences. I hope businesses such as the Stoop stay open and the visitors continue to come. I do think that Rouleau will always be known as Dog River because the show was a huge hit.

  2. I also believe people would still come to see the set and where it was filmed, i especially think it would be cool if they turned it into an actual gas station and that would bring even more people. Places like the stoop might go out of business because all the customers come from out of town and that could be very bad for it. The school may stop getting money, but that isn’t a huge thing i don’t think. My life i think will be sped up because of no traffic stops, but overall I think the town might go downhill now and it will just be known as Rouleau from now on without the show, which will be good and bad.

  3. I think that it kind of sucks because they where bring lots of money into rouleau and the town. I think it would be awsome if they made Corner Gas into a gas station because the XTR sucks in Rouleau and i think they would get way more business. I think people will always think of Rouleau as Corner Gas even though they will not be there. I dont think it will affect my life because i never really watched it and i thought they were a pain in the but in town.

  4. Truthfully, I have never really liked the show, but for somepeople it is a different story. They will watch it every week, and visit the set, and tour the town. Although I think that Corner Gas is a royal pain, it has put Rouleau on the map. I think people will always know Rouleau as “Dog River”. They will never stop coming, but the following may slow down, making us less popular, but we had our “15 Minutes of Fame” as Corner Gas grew in popularity here and around the country. I also agree with both Alyssa and Taylor that the businesses that thrive off of the tourists that come through may go out of the business that the town needs. Also, Taylor brought up a good point. They were always stopping traffic, blocking streets with their trucks, adding traffic to our small streets, and stopping the townspeople from getting their yard work finished in good time. This will definately be a good thing, but also a bad thing, it all depends on which perspective that you are looking at it.

  5. i agree with taylor because if they do turn it into a real gas station they would make even more people come to the town of rouleau but i think that corner gas is an ok show but i wont miss it its not one of my favs shows now if they shut down family guy or something like that i will have something to say.

  6. I think that it was time to end the show because they were starting to think they owned the town. Even though i think that they could have gone farther with the show i would much rather see them leave then stay

  7. There have been many good points brought up in this conversation. Dustin made a good observation that they think they own the town by trying to stop people from doing yardwork. If you have payed for your property, there is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to work upon it while they are “renting” space. The held me and my mom up when my dog had had a stroke, and I was pretty POed about that because we might of had to put her down because of that bunch. True, buisnesses will fall and Rouleau will be in worse economy. The people will still come; it will be like the Beachcombers shooting place, it finished how many years ago but people are STILL coming. Besides, they were running out of story line. Overall its probably a good thing that Corner Gas is coming to a finale.

  8. Coner gas never really bothered me and i dont really care if they leave or not. At least the towns people will stop complaining and wont miss coner gas on the other hand people that relie on coner gas to give them bisness will dearly miss coner gas

  9. I think that it is too early to say good-bye to Corner Gas, so many people all around the world are going to miss it. Businesses in town will be greatly impacted by the end of Corner Gas. All of the employees of Corner Gas were purchasing things from local businesses. It is really sad that lots of people have such poor attitudes about Corner Gas and were not able to capatalize on the tourism. However, if you are able to look past the small inconveniences that held you up for five minutes you will see how Corner Gas benefitted the acting industry in Canada and our entire province. Many jobs were created from the show filming in town and at the sound stage in Regina. The success of the series has given Saskatchewan a great reputation in entertainment. The ending of Corner Gas will not greatly affect my life because I was not really bothered by them being in town but I do hope that tourists continue coming. I think that a lot more people would keep visiting the set if it was turned into an actual gas station/diner. Rouleau will always be known as “Dog River” and tourists will keep coming as long as we don’t turn them away with these negative attitudes about the show.

  11. I think that this is a good thing that is happening because when they were filming they were always stopping you or telling you to stop mowing your lawn becuase you were making to much nosie. This will not impact Rouleau to much other than the one ice cream shop that is very dependant on the turists coming to Rouleau aka Dog River to look at the set and the town. Other than that the rest is for the better. The school was never a very big part of the show. They gave money which helped us out we will miss that i bet. My life will be much better without corner gas around they just annoyed me and stopped me from doing things. Rouleau no matter what will always be known as Dog River becuase that is what is most known by people from other places. The name is going to be that unless somebody from the Rouleau tells them different.

  12. I think that is great that corner gas is finally leaving. I hate them around town because they annoy me by holding us up while trying to work. They are power hungry and abuse the rule that they can stop traffic for a period of time. They are only allowed to stop traffic for a period of 5 min. and i have been sitting in traffic for at least 10 min. most times. They may be good for the community in many ways but i still can not stand them.

  14. If you actually thought about anyone else except for yourself then you would see how many people became known by their jobs on Corner Gas and how it benefited people across the entire country.

  15. i think that Ryan is wrong. If you look in the past, the money that Corner gas has put in the community is a great amount. Some of the coments that are list above descirbes how shallow small town people are. if your coplaint is that you have to drive to the post office a differnt way you need to get a life. We do not live in toronto. Rouleau only consistes of 20 streets.
