Canadians Win – Montreal Riots

Monday night the Montreal Canadians clinched a series win with a 5-0 victory over the Boston Bruins. After the game many fans emptied into the streets to celebrate. This is not uncommon in Canada. What was disturbing was that riots broke out causing injury to innocent people and damage to police vehicles and businesses. Follow this link to read the story or follow this link to watch the video. What are your thoughts on the situation? What do you think causes this type of situation? I am interested to find out your thoughts.

  1. I think this is very crazy behaviour. I think that if the fans want this team to win so bad, they should respect the city in which the team represents. I think emotion of excitment causes a bad judgement. I think the fans should be ashamed.

  2. I thought that this was absolutely tereble, i can see this happening after the finals were done but to see this happen after the first round really disappointes me to see this happen. I can see riots happening over politics, but over a series of seven games that is brutal especially when you see people getting hurt over such a dumb topic. I think the fans should be punish for this sort of radical behavior.

  3. I agree with Alyssa and I think that the fans should be greatly ashamed of what they have done and the image that they have supplied people with when they think of hockey being celebrated in Canada. Of course the fans were excited but this vandalism was horrible behavior that will not be tolerated. When the Canadians won the game against the Bruins all fans should have been happy and I don’t see how this madness was started. Who would even think of doing something like this? Maybe they didn’t want anyone controlling their party but their behavior must be punished and the fans that were arrested got what was coming to them. These types of actions just disgust me.

  4. As a non-hockey fan, reading about this just confuses me. What is the point? Seriously, just because the team won the first of what, seven games? There is absolutely no reason for this. What happened to going out to celebrate with friends? I think that this could be an example of what is to come in the future of sports. What is there to celebrate if people got hurt, and property was damaged?
